As part of Sustainability Week at Yale University, New Haven Principal Beka Sturges led a campus tour of newly updated landscape design around Memorial Quadrangle, Old Campus, and Sterling Memorial Library. These landscapes showcase the recently revitalized work of trailblazing landscape architect Beatrix Farrand, who envisioned Yale’s campus as a kind of botanical garden or “outdoor museum.” Beka discussed how the landscapes help people adapt to urban conditions, encourage ecosystem health, reinforce a sense of place, and create a sense of harmony and integration across various parts of the campus.
