Mount Auburn Cemetery

Over time, plantings near the Mary Baker Eddy Memorial and Halcyon Lake had altered the site’s original rural character, and the pond’s health had deteriorated. Extensive rehabilitation efforts improved water quality and habitat diversity and reinforced visual and spatial connections between the lake and its surroundings. The Maple Avenue interment site provides 200 new burial areas in lawn crypts along a curving path through groves of native trees and shrubs. The Meadow Extension project, designed with William Rawn Associates, Architects, creates a new Celebration Center, horticultural and recycling facility, and burial ground.
