Michael is fascinated by the theoretical links between perceptions of time, religion, and the moralization of nature, as well as their implications for landscape management and design practice. From Kitchener-Waterloo in Ontario, Canada, Michael first began to appreciate landscape while playing with his neighbor in the steep woodlot behind his childhood home. It was likewise shaped by many weekends, summer holidays, and winter snowmobile trips spent in the rugged beauty of the Canadian Shield near Georgian Bay, where his family owns a lakeside cottage. 

Dually fascinated by the category-evading manifestations of nature in cities, Michael pursued an MLA from the University of Toronto after earning a Bachelor of Environmental Studies Honors degree in Urban Design from the University of Waterloo. During his studies, he assisted in the development of rooftop agricultural techniques in Bhubaneswar in India, interned at Public Work in Toronto and, as a graduate research assistant, helped develop nature-based strategies for managing sea level rise for the US Army Corps’ “Engineering with Nature” initiative. Since joining in 2021, he has worked on several residential and institutional projects across the Northeast, from D.C. to Maine. Outside of work, Michael loves to hike and camp, enjoying the challenge of dwelling outdoors with minimal supplies.
